As someone of Irish descent who thoroughly enjoys drinking, St Patrick’s Day is a day filled with joy. When I was younger it was a great excuse to get hammered in the morning, wear puke green sweaters and woo a lot. I’d look forward to kegs full of green beer and the chance to be overly prideful of my Irish heritage. It was a huge deal and I made an ass out of myself each and every year.
St. Patrick’s Day is quite different now. I have become more cynical as I’ve grown older and appreciate shitty beer even less. I try not to leave my house other than to go to work because Chicago is chock full of douchebaggery and vomit on St. Patrick’s Day. It’s best to hunker down and enjoy a cocktail or two at home. These cucumber martinis are perfect for St. Patrick’s day because well, they’re green and they’re nice and boozy. Shake one up and stay classy out there.
2 oz Cucumber Juice
2 oz La Poire Grey Goose Vodka
1 oz Simple Syrup
1/2 oz Lemon Juice
Place all ingredients in a shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously until chilled and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with candied ginger.
